What came first, the chicken or the egg? Photography or Sailing? In my case my love of sailing pre dates picking up a camera by a number of years. The time spent racing and cruising all kind of craft has given me the ability to understand "what happens next" and be in a position to capture that moment.
As I moved behind the camera I realised that the racing yachts I was photographing were incredible, but they were only part of the story. The people and the environment they were in were in many ways as important as the boats themselves.

When on a race track, if possible I like to give it context, one stretch of water can be very similar to another unless you pull back and show the surroundings.

This holistic approach has taken my work into the world of commercial photography though I still have a passion for covering live events.
